Five A Day on Campus

The College of Engineering is one of 28 Puget Sound area worksites participating in the national Five A Day at Work projects launched by the National Cancer Institute. This program encourages Americans to eat more fruits and vegetables (at least 5 servings a day) as a means to increase health and reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses. This project is being conducted locally by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
The project will provide information and activities to encourage faculty and staff to change their eating habits to include Five A Day. The project kick-off event was held on Friday, September 15. Fifteen booths were set up outside Guggenheim Hall. Participants tasted foods such as gazpahco, hot and sour bean soup, sandwiches, apples, and a host of vegetables. Serving ideas and recipes were also provided. The kick-off also included a drawing for prizes, including a fruit basket, food processor, gift certificates, mugs and T-shirts. Five A Day volunteer Mr. Curt Fritsch noted that "the food was delicious and everyone had a great time while learning healthy eating habits."
