The Department seeks outstanding individuals working in emerging areas such as: advanced materials, structures, and manufacturing; environmentally-sensitive energy conversion; quantum systems engineering; or bio-inspired sensors and actuators.

Successful applicants will be expected to provide quality teaching and innovative research that may intersect with the existing research centers listed on the website. They will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, to advise graduate students during the pursuit of their degrees, and to develop a highly visible externally-funded research program. An earned PhD or ScD in mechanical engineering or in an appropriate engineering or related discipline is required.
