Biography
Prof. Wei Li joined University of Washington in 2000. Previously he was a Research Fellow at The University of Michigan, where he received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering in 1999. Professor Li's research area is materials processing and manufacturing. Specifically, he is interested in thermomechanical behavior of materials, modeling, simulation, monitoring, and control of manufacturing processes. His current research is focused on porous materials processing, polymeric nanocomposites, biomaterials, and bio-device design and fabrication. Prof. Li also conducts research on resistance spot welding and welding-induced distortion control. Funding support for Prof. Li's research is from National Science Foundation, Washington Technology Center, and industry.Prof. Li is a recipient of the 2002 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineers Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and the 2004 Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award from the National Science Foundation. In 2005 Prof. Li received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). The PECASE award was presented at the White House.
Prof. Li currently serves as a Board Director of North American Manufacturing Research Institution (NAMRI) of SME and the co-Chair of Biomanufacturing Technical Committee of ASME Manufacturing Engineering Division.
