Biography
Professor Reinhall's main research interests are in the areas of nonlinear dynamics and structural acoustics. He is also involved in system identification, stochastic processes, and computational methods applied to elasticity and plasticity.Research includes investigation of the importance of nonlinearities in sound transmission of submerged shells, investigation of localization effects in submerged structures, development of nonlinear vibration isolator, development of acoustic holography techniques, investigation of numerically induced chaos during simulation of nonlinear systems, investigation of chaotic behavior during metal cutting, and impact analysis and high strain rate deformation of solids.
Prior research has included: chaos in discrete systems, nonlinear periodic plates, nonlinear damping, constraint layer damping, large nonlinear space structures, active damping, rotating machinery, structural acoustics, riveting process, chaos in the drilling process, modal analysis, and numerically induced chaos.
