ILF - Policies & Guidelines
ILF Access Policies
The focus toward Design and Manufacturing, as well as lab administration demands (maintenance, code distribution, technical support, security) require that use be limited to students in designated Design and Manufacturing classes and students working on approved interdepartmental design projects. Normally, other students should use the departmental labs in MEB.The ILF is accessible without entry codes during Annex Shop hours (about 8am to 5pm weekdays).
During Summer quarter, to receive entry codes or stay past closing you must be eligible as indicated below:
- Staff who do not have a key may receive codes on request.
- Graduate assistants must work in ILF and have an Engr Annex use permit.
- All others need permission of ILF class instructor and an Engr Annex use permit.
- No exceptions!
Legal Responsibility
If you sign and return an access agreement and receive an entry code, you are legally responsible for the security and order of the Learning Factory. Before applying, be prepared to follow the rules below:- Keep the entry code secret. Do not tell it to anyone or let them see you enter it -- all authorized users have the code and it is their responsibility to remember it. Do not let anyone in, prop open doors, allow doors to remain propped open, or leave items unsecured. Failure to do so could affect your academic record if police investigate and find you responsible.
- Keep your account password secret and always log out when leaving. You are responsible for all activity that takes place from your account.
- No food or drink is allowed in the Design Lab, Design Studio, or Product Dissection Lab. Food is permitted in the outer area (please remember to clean up).
- The ILF is maintained by its users. You are expected to dispose of your trash, return the items you use, replace furniture, erase whiteboards after use, and make sure that items are not taken out of the ILF or into the machine shop.
- Do not install or remove any software or hardware or change operating system settings without permission of the administrator. Unauthorized changes are difficult to correct, may affect other users, and will be considered tampering.
- If you are the last to leave, turn off the lights and make sure doors are secured.
- Know and follow the lab guidelines posted outside each lab.
- Expiration: Entry codes expire on the last day of finals week each quarter.
