- Quick Links
- Back to Advising
Please note:It is the responsibility of the student and his or her faculty supervisor to make sure that the following procedures are followed, that all forms and papers are properly submitted, and that all deadlines are met.
These requirements are not the responsibility of the Department Graduate Program or the Graduate School.
-
Master's Warrant. The on-line "Application for Master's Degree"; (warrant) must be submitted to the Graduate School by the end of the seventh week of the quarter in which graduation is planned. Applications will be accepted during the eighth and ninth weeks, but will require a $250 fee. No applications are accepted after the end of the ninth week, and enrollment for the following quarter is required to graduate. The student must maintain registration (at least 2 credits) during the quarter in which degree requirements are fulfilled. Filing of the application is the sole responsibility of the student, who must apply via www.grad.washington.edu/stsv/mastapp.htm, during the first two weeks of the quarter in which they expect to complete degree requirements. Students must know the exact degree title (i.e. Master's of Science in Mechanical Engineering), their current quarter program, and their name as it appears on the University of Washington transcript. The application is valid for only one quarter. A new application must be submitted the following quarter, if you do not meet graduation requirements.
-
Graduate School Evaluation. Transcripts are evaluated for minimum Graduate School requirements. The approved warrants are returned at the end of the fourth week of the quarter to the Department for committee signatures and departmental approval. The warrants serve to notify the Department which students expect to receive degrees.
-
Contingencies. If the student does not meet minimum Graduate School requirements he or she is notified by mail. Occasionally an application is approved with a contingency written on the front page. The contingency must be completed before the degree will be conferred.
-
Departmental Evaluation. The student will receive e-mail notification when the warrant has been evaluated by the Graduate School and the Departmental GPC. Any departmental contingencies will be written on the front of the warrant, and the Graduate School will have to verify that they have been met before conferring the degree. It is then the student's responsibility to pick up the warrant from the ME Student Services office and to obtain signatures from his or her committee members. By signing the warrant the student's committee certifies that the student has met all departmental requirements. For thesis option students, the warrant and two copies of the approved thesis must be signed by committee members at the presentation.
-
Deadline for Submission of Signed Warrant. The student is responsible for returning the signed warrant and departmental copy of thesis by the last day of the quarter. The Graduate School must receive two thesis copies before the last day of the quarter in which he or she expects to receive the degree. The exact deadline is defined by the last day of exams, and the date can be verified by calling Graduate Student Services at 543-7115 or 685-2630. If this deadline is not met, registration for at least two credits is required for the following quarter in order to receive the degree.
