UW clubs within the ME department share recent competition wins and other engineering accomplishments.

The ARUW team at the 2026 ARC Championship robotics competition in Indiana.
Advanced Robotics at the UW
Advanced Robotics at the University of Washington (ARUW) competed in the first annual ARC Championship robotics competition in Indiana. The team received third place overall in the 3v3 event, second place in the dart side competition and third place in the drone side competition. ARUW was also in the top eight in the 1v1 battle and top five in the Engineer challenge, in which robots picked up “ore” cubes and deposited them into stations at random orientations with increasing levels of difficulty.

E-Truck members and mentors.
E-Truck
This year, E-Truck at the UW achieved significant milestones in converting a medium-duty truck Peterbilt 337 to a fully electric vehicle. The club designed and manufactured custom engine control unit mounts while engineering critical subsystems. The thermal management team completed circuit testing and leak validation, and the human-machine interface team developed an input aggregator, digital dashboard interface and lighting controls. Looking ahead, E-Truck is targeting a spring drive test. Its members were summer interns at a variety of companies and look forward to applying their industry knowledge to the student organization.

Formula Motorsports at 2026 Formula Student Germany.
Formula Motorsports
UW Formula Motorsports took its driverless car to Formula SAE's inaugural Driverless competition this year, following years of development through the team's dedicated Driverless team. In Michigan, the T37 team placed second in Design, second in Skidpad, second in Driverless AutoX, second in Driverless Design and third in Driverless Overall, a strong debut result after a full year of hard work and development.
The season’s milestones continued in Germany, where the team became the first fully American team to drive at Formula Student Germany in nearly a decade, with Iziah Suklan, UW Bothell ME student and the team’s administrative director, behind the wheel.

The UW Human-Powered Submarine team at the 2026 European International Submarine Races.
Human-Powered Submarine
The UW Human-Powered Submarine team recently received third place at the European International Submarine Races. Hosted in Gosport, England, the competition brought together 12 teams from across the globe to compete in an underwater slalom race. The UW’s new submarine Subwoofer II, piloted by ME student Sloane Guillian, completed nine runs, five of which were faultless. Subwoofer II reached a maximum speed of 2.21 knots and was one of only three submarines able to complete two laps back-to-back with no faults.

The Husky Robotics team at the 2026 Canadian International Rover Competition.
Husky Robotics
Husky Robotics is one of the largest engineering clubs on campus with about 120 members spanning across 20+ majors, including all engineering majors. Every year, the team designs, builds and competes with a new rover and drone in the University Rover Competition in Utah and the Canadian International Rover Competition. The team placed eighth overall at CIRC 2026 with first place in the arm dexterity task.
Recently, Husky Robotics’ software team expanded into a new club under the Allen School and they increased community engagement, with alumni events and the rover unveiling for the broader engineering community.

The UW Solar Vehicle Team at the finish line of the 2026 American Solar Challenge.
Solar Vehicle Team
The UW Solar Vehicle Team (SVT) competed in the 2026 American Solar Challenge, navigating more than 1,500 miles from Minnesota to Texas in one week. The 12-person team finished fourth out of 19 teams overall and first place among American teams, driving up to nine hours a day and reaching a top speed of 65 mph. The competition required passing strict safety tests and involved optimizing solar energy collection, battery storage and aerodynamics. As reigning U.S. champion, the team hopes to learn from this year’s race, make key improvements and compete for the win next season.

Washington Superbike with their electric motorcycle.
Superbike
Washington Superbike wrapped up the 2025-26 academic year with its first unveiling event, showcasing the engineering required to bring a fully custom electric racing motorcycle to life. This past year, the team finalized design changes and manufactured new subsystems for T3, their first running bike built from the ground up. The Superbike team looks forward to testing and getting on the racetrack soon.
