Graduation

graduates standing together on steps

It is very important to ME Department leadership that we come together to celebrate our graduates while observing public health guidelines relating to COVID-19. As such, we would like to invite all our graduates and their families to celebrate this milestone with us during the UW Commencement Ceremony and the Mechanical Engineering Department Graduation Celebration.

Live steam starts at 11:00am PST on Sunday, June 14th, 2020.

Final steps

Apply for your degree

  • In order to formally graduate (i.e., earn your degree), students must apply for their degree. You may do this two quarters in advance. To submit a request to file for graduation, please see departmental Canvas page under “Graduation.”
  • Not sure if you’ve applied? You can verify the quarter you have applied to graduate by running a degree audit (DARS). If you have successfully filed, your anticipated quarter will show prominently on the top right corner.

Logistics

  • Set up email forwarding and migrate personal files off of UW servers
    • You will soon lose access to your UW email inbox and UW file storage/drives. Set up email forwarding on your UW account so that you will continue to receive messages sent to your UW email address, and migrate all personal files off of UW servers (U Drive, Google Drive, etc.).
  • Double-check in MyUW which option you have selected and that your mailing and permanent addresses are accurate.
    • Diplomas are mailed to the student’s address selected on MyUW (local or permanent) two to three months following graduation.

Connect with the department via LinkedIn

  • Now’s your chance! Invite classmates, professors and staff members to connect with you to start building your network of professional contacts.
  • Add University of Washington Mechanical Engineering to the Education section of your LinkedIn profile to show you’re a graduate of the department.
  • Follow ME’s page to get the latest news and updates from the department in your feed.

The virtual ceremony will be held with live elements starting at 11:00am PST on Sunday, June 14th, 2020. Viewing instructions will be sent to those indicating attendance via the RSVP survey. Students are able to share viewing instructions with friends and family who wish to partake in the event proceedings, and a recording will be made available at this webpage after conclusion of the event.

We know this will not replace an in-person event, so we’d like to invite all students back in 2021 to celebrate when we can safely meet in Meany Hall on UW’s beautiful Seattle campus.

UW Commencement Ceremony

For the first time in the University's 159-year history, the graduating class is invited to join in two UW Commencement ceremonies.

On June 13, 2020, graduates, their families, and friends will gather from around the world to join in celebrating the Class of 2020 in a live, interactive webcast.

Then, in June 2021, all Class of 2020 graduates, their families, and friends will be invited back to Husky Stadium to participate in the 2021 Commencement Ceremony.

Details can be found on the UW Commencement website. The RSVP goes live on May 4th and you must submit your information prior to May 24th to receive instructions for virtual attendance.
